Sex Education

Sex education is taught in accordance with our Sex Education Policy. Lessons take place alongside on-going topic work about the body. Instruction is given appropriate to the age and stage of development of the pupils, with Y6 being taught a separate unit of Sex Education. All questions are answered honestly and sensitively with instruction given by both teaching staff and the school nurse. Although the governing body and teaching staff at Twineham feel that sex education is an important element of our pupil's development, the Education Act 1993 states that "parents may withdraw their children from any part of sex education that is outside the compulsory elements of sex education in the science national curriculum". Any parent wishing to exercise this right should make an appointment with the Headteacher.
