What Governors do


Aim of Governors: We aim to give all children equal access to the best possible education at Twineham, to allow each child to fulfil their potential.


What do Governors do?

The Governors act as a "body" and work at a strategic level, alongside the Headteacher and school, to ensure the delivery of the highest level of education possible.


Role and Responsibilities of Governors:

The Governance Handbook sets out the legal framework, including the three core strategic functions of governing bodies which are:


a) Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

b) Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff, and

c) Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it's money is well spent,and these provide our main focus and commitment at Twineham.


Alongside this a "Competency Framework for Governance" also sets out the six features of effective governance:


This framework defines the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for good governance, which we aim to demonstrate. We also ask of ourselves and the school, as to how we can make a difference.

These functions run through all aspects of school life, including Governor responsibilities for safeguarding, the "Prevent Duty," Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), pupil premium, freedom of information and data protection. Through these core strategic functions we strive for the continuous improvement and development of the school. The governing body has a key role in questioning, monitoring and evaluating the School Development Plan, policies and the functioning and running of the whole school on a regular basis, to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and their families.
